STONE COMPOSITION PRESENTATION SKETCHED BY AUTHOR

The image above portrays an organisation of programs in a market-like configuration. Users enters through a street-like corridor that introduces study & social spaces on both sides. The upper levels feature more private digital tech oriented + traditional library spaces that overlooks a courtyard terrace. Programs on the upper levels also opens up to the double height street space synonymous of typical European styled alleyways.

Sketches were recycled through original moment sketches done earlier. The moments reflect what we would envision within our library spaces.

STONE COMPOSITION PRESENTATION SKETCHED BY ETHAN C.

Composition of the model intended the blocks of stones to represent different functions within the library building. The tower like buildings aims to signal to users beyond sector 100 as a landmark that invites people in. The arrangement of the stones are staggered from each other, creating hallways and intermediary spaces between functions.

While fiddling around with arrangement of stones, I was exploring how space are formed and interrupted through the placement of column/planar stones. I threw in an organic piece of stone into the mix to see how it would affect the arrangement of the space. The more interesting parts of the model for me was seeing how space becomes divided into four when placing a thick column like piece into the middle of a room. The organic piece also proved quite interesting through how it disrupts the flow of space in its irregular form. This aspect could potentially be explored through the more inorganic parts of architecture: i.e circulation of people; could this investigation further into a function such as staircases?or the creation of more interesting corridors.

This investigation would eventually lead to inspire the concept of phase 1 from "transitioning into the digiverse"

I also explored a third arrangement of stone massing model that investigates atmospheric qualities of stone. Throughout that investigation, the parts I was able to explore was the manipulation of light through the porosity of the arrangement of stone. Additionally, depending on how you would see scale of the model through that space, the mass of the walls and its textures/colour changes the mood of the place; making it quite monolithic and a quiet kind of space, similar to the pantheon in some ways. The stones used for the investigation was mostly dark pieces, and one metamorphic white piece, thus making it a feature wall that brings a light-ness quality to the dimly lit space.

Model was later sketched on by Daniel H.

Sketches as an interpretation of activating the spaces in between the planar elements. Arrangement of a composite model on the footprint of the site gives us an idea of the scale of these spaces and how they might start to work in conjunction with the urban fabric.

Phase 1 physical library intends to be as porous as possible on the ground level to allow for entry from users in all directions. The annotation shows that users coming from the underpass/old government building/ the stone wall would be able to permeate through the library space as a place of passing and a place of congregation as well. The upper levels of the model holds more private spaces and houses the rooms that would transition users from Phase 1 into Phase 2 digiverse library.
